Athlete Profile: Krista Walker

KWalker

1.  In general, what is your background?

I was born in Las Vegas, but moved to Summerville, SC at 2 and didn’t get to experience the real Las Vegas until many years later.  I have always been very active growing up, got to keep up with my 2 older brothers, but never was committed to a team sport.  I’ve ridden competitively since middle school and still have a horse today. Two weekends ago I did a 15-mile endurance race and, thanks to CrossFit, I was more fit than my horse.  I love hunting and can successfully carry my equipment into the woods without asking a brother for help.  They still won’t admit that I can do more push-ups than them!   The other weekend at an archery shop I inquired about a new bow and the salesman said that typically that bow wasn’t available in a draw weight for girls (30-40#).  It was nice to kindly inform the salesman that I draw 55#… that’s around the same weight as many men!  Boom!

2.  Age, Occupation?

30, Project Manager & graduate student @ The Citadel

3.  How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

Well… a super important person in my life (Will Carter!) kept bragging about how his workout was 8-mins long when I would usually spend 2-hours at a local “Globo Gym”.  Around the same time, I was becoming frustrated with the lack of results.  So, I skipped across the street and tried out my first CrossFit class. I fell in love immediately!

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

CrossFit has changed my outlook on life.  I have changed my diet completely and I am now more motivated than ever to be fit.  This past Integrity’s Revenge was my first competition and I absolutely loved every minute (except WOD 3 haha), but even then I PR’d!  I love being strong, being fit, and not having to ask for help.

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

Hmmm… I’m going to say muscle-ups, but then that would mean I need to practice more!

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

Integrity’s Revenge 2013 for sure!

7.  What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

I love the atmosphere at CFI and that each day I am challenged.   I love how everyone cheers you on and knowing that each person has either been where you are today or is there with you right now… hopefully not passing out!

8.  Favorite WOD?

Haha… Annie.  It’s the best way to measure my DUs!

9.  Least favorite WOD?

Any WOD with push-ups

10. Favorite movement?

Rope climbs & KBS

11. Least favorite movement?

Ring-dips!  Can’t seem to get even one!

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Let’s keep it simple… Shelter, salads from Kicken Chicken, Mex 1, & Mellow Mushroom (contradicts my response to # 4, but hey, its yummy!)

Krista! Not only are you absolutely gorgeous, but you are an incredible athlete and outdoors-woman as well. Not many girls can pull off pretty while shooting a bow and arrow :-). I love that I met you before CrossFit but am getting to know you so much better in the gym! You’ve got such a positive and friendly attitude, and you’re always willing to give tips or do a workout with a gymmate. Plus, Will is so much happier when you’re around, ha!! Keep up the awesome work!
