Athlete Profile:  Christin Kitchens

1. In general, what is your background?

I’m originally from Greenville, S.C….so, born a southern girl! I’m sure everyone is surprised by the lack of the accent. ;) ! I was a cheerleader from the time I was 7 years old until college (I know some don’t consider that a sport, but I was on competition teams, which means I tumbled, flew in the air and lifted other people and worked out everyday of the week. So….it’s a sport! Ha) :) I also ran long distance in track for a while in high school. I have always loved to run! In March of this year, I moved to Charleston with my fiance’ (now my husband), Dan. We’ve both always wanted to settle near the coast and Charleston was our favorite city. We were planning our wedding here, so, thankfully we have mobile jobs and…here we are! We just got married on November 6th, so we’re now able to actually enjoy Charleston without all of the stress and finances of planning a wedding. :)

2. Age, Occupation?

29, Registered Nurse at MUSC

3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

Brooke Bentley and Farran McClanahan work in my unit at the hospital. I told them that I was looking for a good gym, but that I liked running more than lifting weights. I also like variety in my workouts, especially with a good bit of cardio mixed in. They both told me Crossfit was everything I said I was looking for. They both came in with me on a Saturday morning. I have to admit when I first walked in, I was a bit intimidated by the ropes hanging from the ceilings (due to my fear of heights), but I did Cindy and survived and now….I’m addicted!!!

4. How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

I’ve never been in shape like I am now and I’ve sure never felt as good. I have energy that I didn’t know I still had!

5. Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

I would like to get consecutive kipping pull-ups

6. Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

I actually love doing dead-lifts and squats (air, front, back…doesn’t matter)

7. What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

The people are always in a great mood and ready to workout hard. I love that everyone motivates each other and there’s always someone to push you through to the end of the workout. It is also great having coaches who “understand” how to properly lift weights and who promote good nutrition as being essential for health along with working out.

8. Favorite WOD?

Murph or Curtis P

9. Least favorite WOD?

Anything involving a burpee

10. Favorite movement?

Deadlifts and Back Squats

11. Least favorite movement?

Burpees (I really can’t stand those things!)….and I have a terrible fear of heights, so I can climb up the rope, but coming down and having to look at how high up I am makes coming down a challenge! I look down and immediately clinch the rope and require a lot of coaching to get down. Ha!

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Hanks, Poogan’s Porch, and Santi’s

CrossFit Integrity, Charleston, SC
