Athlete Profile:  Patrick Yib

1. In general, what is your background?

Born and raised in the Spartanburg, South Cack-a-lack. Been hurr all me life, ya know what I’m saying? Got me a brother and two sisters, two which you guys know and worked out with, Khoung and Vanny. I was a fat kid growing up, that is, until I started wrestling in high school and lost 30 lbs to make a varsity spot at 140 lbs. After high school, I decided to move in as a freeloader down here in Charleston with my wonderful sister. Needless to say, I love it down here in Charleston!

2. Age, Occupation?

I’m 20 years old, full-time student at Trident Tech, and full-time employee at High-Purity Standards.

3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

I’ve learned about CrossFit through Khoung and Vanny on a day they came up to visit in Spartanburg, you can feel the excitement and energy they had when they chatted the whole day away about the “WOD” and other crazy CrossFit lingos that I did not know about back then. That, my friend, is how I started to join CrossFit the day I moved down to Charleston. I wanted to get a taste of what this new lifestyle is about.

4. How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

CrossFit has changed the way I eat, the way I wear my pants every morning, and increased my level of fitness dramatically. I can feel newfound strengths in many areas of my body that I didn’t know I’ve had before. It’s crazy! Although there was many times I ate very un-Paleo-like, I paid for it during the WOD at Integrity.

5. Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

I would like to compete in the CrossFit Games one day. I know I’m far away from being on par with the people at Integrity right now, but I would like to work up to the top and see the horizon.

6. Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

My favorite CrossFit moment was when I achieved my first muscle-up handstand pushup. It took me a couple days to figure out how to move my big self upside-down that high.

7. What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

The people and the coaches, man, they’re there sweating with you and supporting you. It doesn’t get any better than that, I like the push and motivation coming from everyone in the gym.

8. Favorite WOD?

Grace – a workout I know I can finish in under 5 minutes.

9. Least favorite WOD?

Any WOD that I can’t Rx.

10. Favorite movement?

Cleans. The power clean. Squat clean. Hang clean. Any clean.

11. Least favorite movement?

Double-unders. I got no rhythm, like a white boy trying to dance. I got two left feet, and it’s annoying having to spend about 10 minutes finishing double unders before moving on.

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Where do I begin? I’d have to say anywhere I can get my buffet on. Preferably my sister’s house, she always cook enough for me to be full. Oh yeaaaaaaah.
