Athlete Profile: Bridget Bacon
1. In general, what is your background?
I grew up in Dalton, Massachusetts, a small town in the mountains. I was pretty active growing up and played all sorts of sports. There wasn’t a whole lot going on where I lived so I spent a lot of my time running and competitively showing my horses. I decided 18 years of ice and snow was enough so headed south and went to Clemson University. My freshman year I was on the Equestrian Team and was even fortunate enough to represent the school in the NCAA invitational’s. I then realized Clemson football was where it’s at, and boys were cuter than horses so I hung up my spurs and spent the rest of my college career working for the football team. I moved to Charleston after school and here I am today!
2. Age, Occupation?
28, Account Executive, Comcast Spotlight. I represent over 40 cable networks such as ESPN, CNN, and The Food Network and help local businesses put commercials on TV. Sorry I cannot help you with your cable bill.
3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?
Cindy Smith kept telling me about it at work. I stopped in one day and was captivated by the loud music, people throwing weights around, jumping on boxes, and doing pull-ups. You could feel the intensity. I knew right then and there I stepped into a place I’d love and have been hooked ever since.
4. How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
Like many others, I was going to a globo gym every day spending more time in there than I’d care to admit. I got to a point where I was not seeing any change despite my efforts and time. After joining CrossFit, I soon felt stronger, faster and overall more fit.
5. Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?
I’d like to get better at kipping pull-ups.
6. Favorite CrossFit moment so far?
When I surprised myself and deadlifted 300lbs and recently when I finally RX’d a WOD with pull-ups.
7. What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?
The people at Integrity make it what it is. I feel so fortunate to have found a place with such knowledgeable and dedicated coaches that really push you as well as other athletes who not only provide great competition but also want to see you kick some butt.
8. Favorite WOD?
Filthy Fifty or Dirty Thirty
9. Least favorite WOD?
Typically anything involving pull-ups.
10. Favorite movement?
I love overhead squats! I also enjoy doing most Olympic Lifts.
11. Least favorite movement?
Have I mentioned I hate pull-ups? Also, climbing the rope scares the heck out of me.
12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?
My favorite restaurants are Rio Grande, Santi’s and Coast. I also love Magnolia’s when someone else is footing the bill.
