1.  In general, what is your background?

I grew up in Florida and went to UCF in Orlando. I played sports throughout my childhood-dance, competitive cheerleading, track, and softball. I met my hubby in college and the military has moved us around ever since.

2.  Age, Occupation?

26, Director of a non-profit, Operation R&R.

3.  How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

After being on a professional dance team here in Charleston I wanted something a little bit more challenging. After attempting some spin classes on the base (that were constantly canceled) I stumbled into the CrossFit class on base. A lot of our friends had gotten into it while deployed and I was extremely nervous giving it a try—after the first few times I was hooked!

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

I’ve always considered myself in “shape” until I started CrossFit. I started about 4 months after getting married and those “honeymoon” pounds had started to show! After about two weeks into it I convinced Shane to join me and it has changed our lifestyle and goals tremendously. I’ve always been really competitive and CrossFit is something I knew I could give 110% to and continue to grow each and every day with. There isn’t a single WOD that I’ve done that hasn’t challenged me in a new and different way—and I think that’s what has all of us coming back for more day in and day out. It’s not sport specific-you literally have to be extremely well-rounded. If you’re not, it manages to expose your weaknesses and challenge you to improve!

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

Gosh, it changes every single day! I have so many I don’t know where to start….I would love to get way more efficient at ring muscle-ups. I’d love to be able to do the 30 muscle ups for time workout and it not take me 30 days.

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

Doing my first competition at Integrity’s Revenge this year. Ever since beginning CrossFit my goal was to do Integrity’s revenge. 3 months beforehand I ended up having knee surgery but didn’t want that to slow me down. Finishing the last workout of the competition was so rewarding and something I had worked so hard at completing. It was so awesome being in the same area as so many incredibly motivating athletes and spectators!

7.  What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

The community!!! CFI is truly remarkable when it comes to the coaches, people, and atmosphere. Coming from a much different setting (the base) it has been an extremely refreshing and motivating change. No matter what level someone is at, every single person is there for the same reason—to be healthy, and that is so incredibly obvious at CFI.

8.  Favorite WOD?

Nicole J Running and pull-ups—yes, please! Close second-Cindy, fun body weight movements.

9.  Least favorite WOD?

Karen. I met her in my first week of CrossFit—there were tears shed, and plenty of sickness. It was terrible—but that’s what got me hooked!

10. Favorite movement?

Kipping Pull-ups! I started with the green band and worked every single day to get them. One day they just “clicked” and I absolutely LOVE them now. If only those butterfly ones would “click”!

11. Least favorite movement?

Wall balls (see above about Karen haha)  and burpees.

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Ladles—they have amazing buffalo chicken soup! Also, when Shane is home—case de Weeks-he’s a pretty darn good cook.

So glad you joined the CFI community, Nikki!! You have such a spunky energy and positive outlook, and it’s contagious! You also have such a strong determination to improve and work hard. Case in point…running a marathon over the weekend and doing a WOD (with running, no less!) the week after because you missed CF that much!! You’re amazing:-)
