Athlete Profile:  Kyle Hughey

1.  In general, what is your background?

I am from the upstate of South Carolina.  I graduated from the Citadel in 2001 and moved back to Charleston about 3 years ago.  I have a wonderful wife, Kristin and amazing little girl, Lola.

2.  Age, Occupation?

30, Accountant

3.  How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

I had the standard membership at Gold’s where I would jog a mile or so, followed by a few sets of curls and bench press.  My sister-in-law had started going to Carolina CrossFit and thought I would love it.  I needed a change, so I looked up the closest gym and gave it a try.  Coach Kevin ran me through a 10 minute Cindy and I thought I was about to die.  Coach Kevin must have got a little scared too, because as soon as I finished he made sure I signed that waiver.

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

CrossFit has changed my thoughts of what fitness is about.  At Gold’s, I was showing up going through motions, thinking I was in decent shape.  That was a joke.  I have been doing CrossFit for about six months and am stronger, faster and more flexible.  With CrossFit, I have continuous competition and goals that I strive for.  Now, if I could just work on that diet…

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

Off the wall handsstands

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

The day I gave up the bands on pull-ups.

7.  What do you like most about Crossfit Integrity?

The atmosphere and people make me look forward to the workout.  The coaches are encouraging and do a great job mixing up the workouts.  I feel like I have an addiction to CrossFit Integrity, I constantly tell people about it and if I wake up in the middle of the night, I take a look on-line to see if the WOD has been posted…my wife thinks I am crazy.

8.  Favorite WOD?

Nancy…because I can Rx it and made the board.

9.  Least favorite WOD?

Anything with ring dips

10. Favorite movement?

Back Squat

11. Least favorite movement?

Ring dips

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Lost Dog (Folly Beach) for breakfast and Zia Taqueria (off Maybank Hwy) for lunch or dinner.
