Athlete Profile:  Ashley Vaughan

1.  In general, what is your background?

I grew up in Camden, SC with one older sister.  My mom threw us unto everything; piano, dance, etc so I played a lot of sports, most not very well.  Once I discovered my eye/foot coordination was better than my eye/hand, soccer became the sport of choice as I traveled and played year-round for about 7 years and coached while in college at CofC.  I spent most of college enjoying Charleston, a little living in Chicago and life in general, so my experience was a little longer than some, but some decent stories came out of it.

2.  Age, Occupation?

30, land acquisition & land development

3.  How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

Edmund got me to come to CrossFit, not sure exactly how, but I dont think he thought I would continue coming.  I think it was a challenge for me to be more than just a runner.  I have never been as sore as I was after day 1 and I have never been as excited to be that sore.  And thanks to Edmund, I made it to the blue bands last week (’bout damn time I’m sure he would say).

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

A year ago I ran my first marathon but I am in better shape now than I have ever been by coming to crossfit for almost 9 months. CrossFit motivates me to be better to my body.  I can feel the difference when I work out, my moods are better and my overall energy is up.

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

One, I can think of thousands, but I would certainly like to RX more workouts and figure out wallballs without hitting myself in the face.

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

Honestly, it keeps getting better as long as I stay on track, so ask me again in a year.

7.  What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

The challenge.  I like to say it is my dose of humility when I walk through the door, which I can always use.  The people, the coaches and the encouragement help get me through the WOD and keep me coming back.  I never thought I would be able to do some of the physical things I have been able to do.

8.  Favorite WOD?

In honor of the Charleston 9, because what a great reason to workout.

9.  Least favorite WOD?

In honor of the Charleston 9, I developed my own set of man hands & wanted to cry for most of it.

10. Favorite movement?

Slamballs – best way to get out aggression ever

11. Least favorite movement?

Any handstand thing, I struggle enough without being upside down – oh & wallballs

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

I am a totally foodie so this is difficult; Carolinas, Rue De Jean, Lost Dog, Poes, Sermets, Long Point Grill, VooDoo, Al Di La… Im usually good to go if a glass of vino is served with it. (obviously, I was not a Paleo participant).
