Athlete Profile:  Justin White

1.  In general, what is your background?

I grew up in White Sulphur Springs, WV.  I have always been very active and started playing sports at a young age.  In high school I played football, basketball, baseball, tennis, ran track and was Valedictorian of my class.  I then went to Virginia Tech where I earned my B.S. in biochemistry and played football for two years.  I graduated in 2000, worked for a year in Charlotte and then decided to further my education in Charleston.  I received my Doctorate in Pharmacy from MUSC in 2006.

2.  Age, Occupation?

33 Clinical Pharmacist for Roper Hospital

3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

I heard about CrossFit from Chris Pace. I had basically given up on working out and just played intramural sports at MUSC.  I was really tired of the gym and trying to think of different workouts daily.  The intensity just wasn’t there and I was used to that kind of environment from college workouts.  Before starting CrossFit I hadn’t been on any kind of exercise program for over three years.  CrossFit is exactly what I was looking for and needed.

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

CrossFit has made me feel young again.  It is exciting to see how your body can adapt to the changes it is faced with everyday from the WODs.  I am definitely mentally and physically stronger than I have been in a really long time.  I look forward to the challenge everyday and get excited about being there.

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

I would really like to become a better distance runner.  I have always been a sprinter so the WODs with running always slow me down. I also need to be stricter with my diet.

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

I would have to say getting my first muscle-up.  I was pretty excited.

7.  What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

There are several things I like about Integrity, the first being the challenge of each WOD.  I am a very competitive person and I try to get better with each WOD.  I really like how you see results so quickly and that you are competing against time. I have met so many friendly people and all want to see each other succeed.  I like the idea of having a coach there to answer your questions, push you when you are exhausted and stress correct form.

8.  Favorite WOD?

I really enjoy the barbell complex workouts like DT.  Also, the Olympic lifts…  Grace

9.  Least favorite WOD?

Not sure what it is called but the WOD with 100 thrusters and 5 burpees at the top of each minute with a 20 min cap.  Didn’t like it at all.

10. Favorite movement?

Hang power cleans or push jerks

11. Least favorite movement?

Hand-stand push ups-HSPU

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

It is really hard to choose one.
Lunch- Five Loaves
Dinner- Mustard Seed and Boathouse on IOP
