Athlete Profile:  Julie Yib

1.  In general, what is your background?

I was born and raised in Spartanburg, SC.  I played soccer in high school, and I broke my right clavicle. After surgery, I wanted to focus more on school, so I quit soccer.  I decided to join a local globo gym with my mom as my fitness regimen.  During my senior year of high school, I started training at CrossFit Spartanburg for two months, but I was unmotivated, so I went back to the global gym. Two years after high school graduation, I decided to follow my brothers and sister to Charleston.  I am the youngest and last Yib to hop on the CrossFit wagon.

2.  Age, Occupation?

21, Cosmetologist and Full-time Student

3.  How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

My siblings, of course! Vanny was definitely the fire to kick start my engine. I couldn’t believe how much progress she has made considering her past. (definitely my #womancrusheveryday!) I was tired of being picked on for having a double chin.  My siblings show a lot of tough love by the constant ridiculing of me after every WOD, so I start committing and training! Watch out guys, I’m coming for you!

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

CrossFit has changed my whole life! I’ve been doing the paleo diet the past couple months and has noticed a huge, huge, HUGE improvement to my lifestyle and body. For instance, I have noticeable abs.  My waist is too small for my pants, but my thighs are tight.   And last but not least, a medium shirt is starting to feel like an XS around my biceps! From a physical standpoint, I couldn’t even do a pull up at the beginning of the year, but a couple weeks ago, I earned my first strict muscle up! I’m getting stronger, better, and faster and I love it. 😀

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

Ahh! Just one? Hmmm, to get better at gymnastics! I admire the strength and the beauty that is behind each and every gymnastic movement.

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

Watching the Fortune Cookies competing amongst the regional/game athletes (Julie Foucher) in the Summer Crush Games.

7.  What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

CrossFit Integrity has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I like how everyone introduces and greets one another, but individually competes to be the best in each WOD. I love that all the coaches are very helpful and guide you step by step.

8.  Favorite WOD?

Any WOD where I can keep moving and don’t burn out

9.  Least favorite WOD?

WOD#1 From 2013 Integrity’s Revenge = Worst ten minutes of my life.

10. Favorite movement?

Squats (I’m Asian!)

11. Least favorite movement?

Toes to bar – working on that gymnastics…. slowly

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

My sister’s kitchen, where its an all you can eat paleo buffet!!

Basil, Wasabi Daniel Island, Zaxby’s, Chipotle, D’Allesandro’s Pizza, Miyabi for my carb back loading days

CrossFit Integrity, Charleston, SC
