Athlete Profile: Seth Cobb

1. In general, what is your background?

I grew up in Atlanta and after high school decided that I enjoyed not having fun and getting yelled at so I went to a federal academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy in New York.  It wasn’t all bad up there, living in New York and playing basketball were both great experiences, but needless to say I did not have a normal college experience.  I graduated with a degree in Logistics and a Third Mate’s license so my friend and I decided to come down to Charleston and start sailing on ships out of here, been here ever since.

2.  Age, Occupation?

30, 2nd Mate in the Merchant Marines

3.  How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

Found out about CrossFit through my girlfriend Sarah, she emailed me on the ship saying she found this new way to workout.  After explaining her first workout of pullups, pushups, and air squats I thought it was pretty stupid.  Buuuuuttt four months later when I got off my ship she was doing more pullups than me and I wasn’t having that.  So I tried it out and pretty much ate/threw up my earlier words.

4.  How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

One thing basketball players know is there is in shape and basketball shape, and the same thing can be said about CrossFit. You can think your in shape but until you push yourself the way CrossFit does you have no idea.  After I hung up my sneakers my workouts consisted of hitting the gym for a hour and maybe a short run, which was fine for awhile but its hard to stay motivated and you don’t push yourself like you do at CrossFit, so its taken my fitness to the next level.

5.  Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

Need to finally conquer the muscle-up

6.  Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

Happens every time I go, watching the class following mine get warmed up.  I’m done and they’re just getting into the good stuff.

7.  What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?

The group atmosphere, your all there to get your ass kicked and all are welcome.

8.  Favorite WOD?

Fight Gone Bad

9.  Least favorite WOD?

The first few after I get off a ship, it’s horrible starting over again.

10. Favorite movement?

Double-unders, box jumps

11. Least favorite movement?

Squats specifically overhead, but any will do

12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Basil, Oak (when i’m not paying)

CrossFit Integrity, Charleston, SC
