Athlete Profile: Hayden Hilke
1. In general, what is your background?
I’m originally from Charlotte, moved to Jackson Hole, WY after college, then to Charleston for PT school in 2000. I have been traveling for work between Jackson and Charleston since 2006.
2. Age, Occupation?
35. Physical Therapist
3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?
I found out about CrossFit after going to a strength and conditioning facility called Mountain Athlete, in Jackson Hole. My Mountain Athlete coach suggested I find a CrossFit during my months in Charleston. I went to CrossFit Integrity one Saturday in February, 5 months after my son Dean was born, and have been going back ever since.
4. How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
I gained 45 pounds with my pregnancy, craving cinnamon rolls and anything potato based. I have a complex orthopedic history, including broken bones, hardware, and overuse. The stronger I am, the better I feel. I have felt my strongest after consistently working out at CrossFit Integrity.
5. Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?
My personal goal was to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight before my son turned a year (September 23rd). I surpassed this goal, and feel stronger than I did before I got pregnant. I personally don’t give a rip about Rx’ing anything, lifting my body weight near or over my head, or being the first to finish a WOD.
6. Favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Stepping on the scale after doing the Paleo Challenge for a month. Oh, and crossing the finish line at the Mud Run this year with my CrossFit cohorts! So fun!
7. What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?
Redundant, I know, but the coaches. They have been really supportive of an old gal like myself participating in their daily challenges! They are more particular about form, comraderie, and ‘integrity’ than finish times and weight. I think these things are CrossFit Integrity’s best attributes.
8. Favorite WOD?
The one where we climbed the rope 16 times because I didn’t think I could do it.
9. Least favorite WOD?
The one where we climbed the rope 16 times because it sucked!
10. Favorite movement?
Deadlifts. They make me feel strong and balanced.
11. Least favorite movement?
Kettlebell swings—they don’t feel right. Anatomically they aren’t the best for challenged shoulders.
12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?
I go through phases, but lately I have loved Pane e Vino on Warren Street. The price is right, and if you eat on the patio, you will most likely find yourself still there, several hours later, sampling Lemoncello and soaking in the ambience.

I was afraid to see who was the athlete profile this week, as the last 2 weeks the profiles included a “by the way, I’m moving away.”
Thanks for sharing. I LOVE Lemoncello. Although, I use it in desert making and never thought to sit on my back porch and sip it…thanks for the suggestion!
Oh, whoops…By the way, I’m moving away! Sorry, Denise–come see me in Jackson hole!
3 for 3!
I knew it!!! Ugh…It wouldn’t surprise me if my husband’s is next week, he practically lives in VA anyway
Good luck with the move, although I know you will be happy there!
Great job lady! Very inspirational!
