Athlete Profile: Alissa Collins
1. In general, what is your background?
I grew up in Trumbull, Connecticut with my mom, dad, step-parents, and two sisters (one of which is a fellow crossfitter). When it came time to select a college, I chose to leave the cold winters of the Northeast and head south. I graduated from the College of Charleston in 2007 with a BA in Political Science and a double minor in Spanish and Criminal Justice. I graduated from the Charleston School of Law in May 2010 and am currently awaiting the results of the S.C. Bar.
2. Age, Occupation?
24, Pretend Lawyer until October’s results.
3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?
Meredith, my somewhat older, substantially shorter, yet slightly stronger sister, covinced me to try out the gym that left her flat on her back in the middle of the living room. I’ve been hooked ever since.
4. How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
Pretty much the same story most people say: I’m more conscious of what I eat (though no Paleo for me!). Although I was always very active, playing soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, for the first time I’m excited to go to the gym, which is something I never had before. I thought I was in good shape until I met Brian and he proved me wrong.
5. Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?
Consistent double-unders would be nice.
6. Favorite CrossFit moment so far?
It’s a tie between my first RX (first time doing Fight Gone Bad) and finally getting pull ups. Oh, and the moment I finished the Charleston 9.
7. What do you like most about CrossFit Integrity?
It challenges me to do things I never would have dared try before. (And, of course, the people!)
8. Favorite WOD?
FGB or Charleston 9.
9. Least favorite WOD?
Murph was rough. But I finished it. That’s all I care about most of the time. I just go in and tell myself to finish.
10. Favorite movement?
PULL UPS! (even though they shred my hands)
11. Least favorite movement?
Running, because I used to be able to run miles without a problem, and now… well, I get tired after the 400 m warm up.
12. Favorite place to eat in Charleston?
Mmm. I love food. Halls Chophouse for steak, Al Di La for Italian, Basils for Thai, Mellow Mushroom for Pizza…

Good job on those pullups, Alissa! I really hate those things!
Nice work Alissa!
Great pic! You are a pull up machine now
Next skill is dead hang pullups!
Lee – nice work, sissy! I’m so proud of you. Love you, M
I did 18 pull-ups. My DL was 205 lbs. The pre-workout DL instruction was very helpful. I could have lifted more weight.
Tonight’s encouragement was greatly appreciated especially from the esteemed Nutmeg State barrister!
Kudos to BK & CF-I on their expansion / growth plans!
